Composition
Each Creon capsule contains 300 mg of pancreatin obtained from pancreatic glands and is composed of lipase (8000 FIP units), amylase (9000 FIP units) and protease (450 FIP units)
 
Properties
Creon is a new form of pancreatic replacement therapy which combines the features of fast, homogeneous distribution in the stomach with complete protection against inactivation by gastric juices. The micro-spheres mix homogeneously with the chyme in the stomach and pass into the small intestine, where they dissolve rapidly in the alkaline pH, thus releasing the enzymes rapid action in the small intestine is thus ensured.
 
Indications
Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, caused by cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis and after pancreatic surgery.
 
Contraindications
Creon¨ is contra-indicated during the early stages of acute pancreatitis or in those patients with a known allergy to pancreatin.
 
Precautions / Warnings
None
 
Side Effects
The incidence of drug related adverse effects is very low (<1 %); the most common are diarrhoea, constipation, gastric discomfort, nausea and skin reactions.
 
Dosage & Administration
Initially 1 or 2 capsules with meals or snacks, then the dose should be adjusted depending on individual requirements.
